On a BCM50 3.0, is there a way to label a key (on an IP phone) with a name associated with the number on an external autodial?

Basically, I am trying to get a key labeled as "HelpDsk", which is an external number, on the display of my IP Phones. Currently it shows just the phone number -- programmed with Feature *1 + key + phone number.

I have tried adding HelpDesk to a system speed dial. Feature 0 + 08 will dial the HelpDsk and show its name on the display. However, I can't seem to figure out how to assign a specific speed dial entry to a key.

How can I have a text label for a key that dials an external number?

do your IP phones have KEMS attached to them or are you talking about the basic stand alone phone...

Two of the phones have KEMs. It's a mix of 1220 and 1230 IP Phones, which have 4 or 10 self-labeling keys. In total, I have have 12 IP Phones on this system.

It won't happen, the closest you can get is a Speed Dial key, Ftr0, then the Speed Dial #, 12. That will then display, "HelpDesk". But, you will not get it on your IP or KEM button display.

I think I *may* have a solution, but will not be able to try it until later.

* Create a CCR tree, add a transfer node to external number.
* Set the AA properties for using a feature code for one-button access to the CCR tree & node.
* Set a label in the IP Terminal Features / Key Labels called "HelpDesk" that has the feature code for my new CCR Tree / Node
* Assign the new code to a key on the phone

Think it may work?

Go to Call Pilot web admin, Auto Attendant, General Properties.

Near the bottom, is a "Starting CCR tree feature code" field that tells it the first feature code (911). Then next field tells it how many codes to add (5).

Once that is set up, Feature 9 1 2 says to call Tree 1 and Node 2. Feature 9 1 3 would be tree 1 node 3. There are limits to which trees and nodes that can be used. Like trees 1-7 and nodes 1-8 (first level only).

Never mind. I am not sure what I was thinking, but it didn't work. One press button access to CCR trees is to transfer an outside caller to that tree/node. It doesn't allow you to connect yourself to a node.

Feature 0 it will have to be for this solution.

Kudos robl3000,
some of the most useful solutions with these things are not in any book (or CD, these days)...I thought your idea was a good one and might work, showed that you were thinking outside the box. Sorry it didn't work, I was thinking I had a use for it if it did. Nice to see you post the fact that it didn't for the benefit of others.
Imagination is more important than knowledge.

OK -- Another solution is being used. We have an unused analog extension. I have set it to FwdAll to the external number. Changed its name to "HelpDsk" and set an Internal Autodial Key on the sets.

Key is labeled as "Ad HelpDsk", and will be user-friendly enough to keep them from complaining about too many key presses or unable to identify the correct key.

Peronal Note -- Some users are impossible to please. ;-)
