Hi All,

Is the Speech Recognition feature for the NAM activated by keycodes? I know it requires an MS-PEC card, but are any keycodes required as well? Currently, the option is greyed out in NVM Manager.

NAM is 4.1, 16 channels; currently has 1 MS-PEC card. Do I need another card as well?

Thanks.

No Keycodes are needed, you would need them if your adding more voice channels (MS-PEC)
The Speech Recognition Automated Attendant features must be configured by
using Norstar Voice Mail Manager

Thanks Perry. But, when I try and configure it, all options are greyed out in NVM Manager. Is there a step by step procedure for activating it? Perhaps through the ACCESS server?

Are you following these steps
Enabling the Speech Recognition Automated Attendant
1. Click on the Greeting Table sub-menu from the Speech Rec main menu.
2. Select the number of the Greeting Table you want to enable the Speech
Recognition Automated Attendant on. The corresponding Greeting Table
Setup window appears.
3. Select the Enabled checkbox.
4. Click on the OK button

Don't know why anyone would want to activate this feature, if you have a lot of personal turnover it's a pain to maintain. Did not go over big

Thanks again Perry, I'll check it out today and report back what I find.

Here is need to know info...

Speech Recognition Automated Attendant consist of two features:
• External Speech Recognition Automated Attendant - This feature gives outside
callers the ability of directing their own calls by speaking the name of the person
they want to reach.
• Internal Speech Recognition Automated Attendant - The feature allows an
internal Norstar Voice Mail user the ability of directing their own calls by using
the Company Directory and speaking the name of the person they want to reach.
After Speech Recognition is enabled, Norstar Voice Mail automatically enables two
Voice Channels for the feature.
Two additional Channels can be added for Speech Recognition by enabling the
Speech Recognition 2 to 4 Channel Upgrade Security Key Code.
Note: Speech Recognition can have a maximum of 4 Channels.

Prerequisites
In order for your Speech Recognition Automated Attendant software to be
functional, you must:
• add 16 MB of memory to the NAM
• install a Media Services Processor Expansion Card (PEC) in slot 4 of the Media
Service Base Interface Card (BIC) in the NAM for a two Channel Speech
Recognition Automated Attendant
• install another PEC in slot 3 of the BIC if the Speech Recognition Automated
Attendant is upgraded to four Voice Channels
For more information on installing a Media Services Processor Expansion Card
(PEC) or memory (SIMM), refer to the Norstar Applications Module Installation
and Maintenance Manual. The Norstar Applications Module Installation and
Maintenance Manual is included on the Norstar Voice Mail 4.0 Documentation and
Client Software CD-ROM. All the Norstar Voice Mail Installation Manuals on the
CD-ROM are protected by the password: Norstar99.

Thanks Curlycord, I will see what slot my existing PEC card is in now.

Currently I have 16 channels and 64MB RAM on the NAM, so I think I at least have the RAM covered.

Curlycord:

I have confirmed that I do not have a PEC card in slot 4. I only have a PEC card in slot 1, hence the 16 channels. I guess I will need to order one and install. Then, I should have the option of enabling the Speech Recognition, correct? 2 Channels will be fine.

Also, where did you quote the prerequisites for the Speech? I've looked through all my docs (about 30 of them) and could not find it.

Thanks again to all for your assistance. Have a Great New Year.

A2Xprt:

Did you get the Speech Recognition to work on the NAM?
If so, what did you do?

I am having the exact same problem with my NAM (section greyed out in NVM Manager), I have 16 channels and 32MB RAM.

Would greatly appreciate any assistance you can give.

@sstren:

I'm still trying to locate an additional MS-PEC card to enable this capability. I haven't forgotten about this yey, as it is on my priority to-do list.

From what I gather based on the experts above, this is all I need.

Let me know if you get it working. I would also need an additional MS-PEC card in slot 4 if that is the case...

Have you tried accessing the NAM remotely using NVM Manager and had any luck through the internet?

@sstren

Great find. But doesn't the NAM use a type III or are they one in the same?

Let me know if this does the trick for getting the speech recognition working.

Thanks!

I have added an MS-PEC card to slot 4 of the NAM. The Speech Rec tab is still greyed out in NVM Manager.

I did notice that I have 8 additional a's (available channels) when I show all channels, but am still wondering how to activate Speech Recognition...

@ curlycord

Any ideas to get the Specch Rec tab to not be greyed out?

No

Unless NAM does not recognize something as being correct like the RAM type or size or the PEC?

For PEC maybe make sure you see some a's on channels 17 and up in channel status under F915.
If's it's X's then my guess is it does not see the card.

Use NVM 4.0 and not 3.0?

outta ammo, sorry.
