Okay so I'm pretty sure i've got a dead HDD in my fiber 8-channel NAM. Hooked up a monitor and keyboard to it, it has a cute animation of a floppy disk, telling me to put in a floppy disk and hit F1.
I haven't done anything to it for a long time so I don't think I broke it...
Its Mfg date is 2002 so i assume it's just had a drive failure.
I don't have any backups, so i'll have to build some mailboxes. No big.
What I don't know is:
Can I restore it to operation if I install a new (normal) hard drive? I have a CD full of stuff "Norstar Voicemail 4.1". Here's the top of the README for it:
-----
This CD contains upgrade version of the following software:
Norstar Access 6.0, working issue 200G
Norstar Voice Mail 4.1, working issue 05
-----
I hear there's a "backpack" external CD drive for it. Do I need to use that and install this software from the CD? Does that CD install the base OS/2 system as well?
Am I crazy? Would it cost me less in time and suffering to buy a new "NAM hard drive" like the one here:
How much should I pay for a hard drive for this? One place quoted me $600!
Also, I hear that the NAM out of the box is 2 channels. Mine had 8 when I bought it refurb a couple years ago. Will I need codes to upgrade it to get that back? Who can sell me those since the NAM is out of print?
Thanks very much if you can answer even one or two of my questions, I really need help!
