NAM mailbox lockup

I am heading to a customer site where they have a NAM, not sure of the version, which is allowing them to access the mailboxes, but not listen to any messages. When I tried to get into a mailbox offsite, i entered a valid MBOX and PSWD, it logged me in but then said, "Can not continue, exiting the system." It is reported tobe this way for all mailboxes. They have rebooted. Any ideas.

i an assuming when you hear vmail answer you are pressing
** first then entering mbox/pswd more info would be helpful
