Hi

I just know about what tracert does, you enter an IP and you can see how many routers (computers) it passes to reach the final destination. So, my FQDN is "yazdict.org" and I know its IP address is 62.60.213.8, however when I issue "tracert yazdict.org", I get this output:

=========================================
C:\Documents and Settings\admin1>tracert yazdict.org

Tracing route to yazdict.org [62.60.213.8]
over a maximum of 30 hops:

1 <1 ms <1 ms <1 ms 192.168.100.1
2 593 ms 630 ms * 85.9.71.129
3 600 ms 664 ms 672 ms 85.9.68.1
4 575 ms 588 ms 646 ms 217.219.38.65
5 597 ms 628 ms * 217.219.0.249
6 644 ms 647 ms * 217.218.158.42
7 639 ms 694 ms 661 ms 195.146.63.73
8 650 ms 650 ms 645 ms 195.146.63.70
9 684 ms 620 ms 571 ms 195.146.63.222
10 * 195.146.63.222 reports: Destination net unreachable.

Trace complete.

as you see it didn't bring 62.60.213.8 at the end of the trace, yes, it's shown at the top, but what I'm asking is that shouldn't the last IP address be actually my server's IP address (62.60.213.8)? It only brings it at the top for better readability?! Or do you I have some problems with the concept?

cheers,
bijan

You have the concept correct, but not all routers honor the tracert packets, so any path through them fails. Some folks prefer privacy to diagnostics, sadly.

I tried to remain child-like, all I acheived was childish.

Hey jimbopalmer

thanks for your answer. So, what you're saying is that the IP of the site should have come at the end of the list, after all it's what we're looking for, even though it's not a router, just because of some privacy thing, we don't see all stuff in there, hah?
One more thing: after all we have to be able to find those missing routers somehow, because maybe they sort of find out we're reaching to them through "tracert" command and they don't answer, but they sort of DO answer for the real request or we couldn't have seen the site, hah?
