My Sister has invested in a Belkin ADSL modem with wireless-G router. The card in her dell inspiron 700m notebook is an Intel PRO/wireless 2200bg. Anyway we have never managed to get this set up to communicate. It seems that the computer seems to be picking up a signal even when the router is not plugged in to the mains or even taken out the box!!So obviously its the computer side. Windows was happy with the installation and it all went smoothly, even though we have never managed to get it to connect to the net. So any help with this problem would be much appreciated.

ok yes ill try and help but first i need to know what model the router is..

that is the same notebook as shown in the link. But the router is It is most peculiar because even though the router is not powered, the notebook still seems to be receiving a signal(at varying signal strengths even!)Any help on this is sincerily appreciated. Thanks.
P.S. the card is the one that came with the notebook Intel PRO/wireless 2200bg

ok!! is it dsl or cable for the internet provider!!!
do you live in a built up area?? if you do it is more than likely that the laptop is picking up a neighbours wirless signal... if u in uk is it btline or cable telewest/ntl??

whoops the title is adsl.. cough!!!

if you look at the thread i posted earlier today on connection to another customer take option 2...but connect the rj45 cable to the laptop on the right hand side it will only connect to the largest of 2 sockets.. go to networking on screen and enable the connection..if there is a button to switch of the wirless do that.. once it has enabled go to the black DOS screen and type "ipconfig /all" at the dos prompt please post what u see for the moment, return once this as taken place and ill continue.
