I'm hoping to get some insight into a problem we had with FM 6 Unlimited this morning.

Background
I am using FM Unlimited to serve a database over our LAN to about 20 users. We are using it to log and update incoming customer requests. The database is running on a Windows 2000 Pro machine. We have been using this system for over a year and a half with no problem. We upgraded to version 6 about 2 months ago and I used the new features to suppress the default web interface and build my own.

This morning the system froze and was not responsive. When an analyst used Task Manager to close FM it corrupted the file. The file size went from approx. 15 meg to less than one meg and when I recovered it the only thing left was the password setup. All data, fields, scripts, and layouts were gone.

If anyone has seen anything like this before, your help would be much appreciated. I am not too optimistic about recovering the data but I would like to know what caused this to happen.

Thanks

How are you backing up your database? Are you running FileMaker Server Behind FileMaker Unlimited? If you are backing up your databases while they are open, this is where your corruption could be coming from unless you are FileMaker Server. If you are using FileMaker Server is it on a separate machine than FileMaker Unlimited? If not than that is a possibility as well for the corruption.

I think we identified the problem. I am not using FM Server. The issue seemed to be somewhere in the transfer of information from the web pages back to FM. Our local network has been corrupting URLs for internal site requests. Because of the information contained in a URL sent to FM from a web front end it corrupted something within out ticket file and caused the problem.
