I've been using this computer for 3 years and this never happened before except the last few weeks. Whenever I leave my computer for 6 hours or more, the browsers become dead (i.e: they say could not be found, or could not be found, etc.) My browsers are MSIE 6 and Netscape 7.0. I'm using cable internet.

However, if I test by ipconfig, everything seems fine. ICQ and Yahoo Messenger also still work perfectly, although if I log-off from then I cannot relogin.

The only remedy to store everything back to normal is by restarting the computer.

Could anyone please let me know what's going on and let me have the solutions?

Thanks.

When your frozen and you go to a cmd prompt - can you ping by host name? ping yahoo.com

If not I would say this is DNS issue. Instead of rebooting next time at the cmd prompt type ipconfig /renew and see if this refreshes the ip address information and try connecting again.

Do you happen to have Comcast as your provider?

Good Luck

Hi crazynoodle,

Thanks for the reply. I'll try your pinging tip once the error comes again and let you know how it goes.

No, my provider is not Comcast. I live in Canada and my provider is Rogers.

Thank you.

Hi,

When it happened again I tried pinging yahoo.com and it was fine.

What's going on then?

Thanks.
