Hi Everyone,

I have setup an odbc bridge from an access db to a mysql db (version 4.1.11) running on fedora core 4.

Everytime i restart the mysql server i have to recreate the user in mysql user table to enable the bridge to reconnect.

Has anybody got any ideas as to why this is happening?

Don't know ... but what about testing each element involved.

Can you connect using the native mysql client
>mysql -h host -u user -p
Even when you restart the server

When you say you need to recreate the user - creating the user means writing a record into mysql.user table - is this 'disappearing' when you restart the server ? Sounds a bit strange.

If you can get mysql client to work correctly then you can move on to look at ODBC driver

No the user is still there and all the attributes look the same in the user table. When i say i have to recreate the user i mean the only way to establish connection from the access machine is to delete the user from the user table in the mysql db on the unix machine and then create the user again using "grant".

Hi Everyone,

I know its been a while but anyone got any ideas on the above / below??

It seems that the odbc bridge will only work for a few days
and then i need to recreate the user in the mysql table in order to be able to connect from the access machine.

Is there any logging on the mysql that i should be checking apart from the obvious /var/log/mysqld.log & /var/log/messages
