Is it possible to access a mysql database on a linux box from a cobol program?

Yes - Cobol is on the mainframe. Currently we do a socket connect to the box to push some job reporting type information (start time, end time, etc..). The information is stored in a new file each time the data is sent and is loaded into an oracle database every 10 minutes. After the data is loaded the files are deleted. I was just looking for a way to streamline the process but I guess a free option does not exist. Thanks for taking the time to respond.

Could you explain in further detail your requirements? Are you after replication between the database without the procedures in between? Where does each database sit and on which operating system?
