Hello,

I've added a GP to the the clients computers policy for folder redirection on My Documents.

I decided to use \\ServerName\Users , as it is a default share already on the D:\Drive.

All seemed ok, the policy appeared under 'settings' section of the MMC.

I logged off and back on (twice) , yet mydocs have not been redirected.

On the server under \\ServerName\Users there is a sub folder now created with my '%UserName%' , but no sub folder 'my documents' nor any content?

Is there something else I need to do?

I followed the instructions on the following link

check event viewer for errors and

Enabling logging

In addition to logging events in the Application Event log, Folder Redirection can provide a detailed log to aid troubleshooting. To create a detailed log file for folder redirection, use the following registry key:

* HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Diagnostics
* Set: FdeployDebugLevel = Reg_DWORD 0x0f

come back with the log

It's ok , worked it out..

I checked my local machine event viewer->applications and found the folder redirect error (access denied)

On further investigation it seems although the share for 'Users' , is set with permissions 'Domain Users -> Full Control' under the security tab, it only had 'Special Permissions' , I changed Domain Users to have 'Full Control' under security and bingo, it's now working.

is it wrong to have the 'users' share set to full control?

the mydocs folder has had ACL applied to it so only the user can view the docs, even logged onto the server as admin won't let me view content of the mydocs, so I assume we are good to go!

no, thats the corret way, u prevent unwanted access through ntfs permissions

Thanks, thought it best to check, incase i'd screwed it up like usual ;-)

N.B. This Javascript date bug is driving me mad, I have JS debuger in IE installed it throws a pop up every page!

You missed the fact that on an SBS you don't need to configure all of this manually.

As long as you add users using the Add User Wizard (from the SBS Server Management Console), and then run the "Configure My Documents Folder Redirection" wizard, it will be fully configured with nothing more to do.

And you will never be able to turn it off again -> don't do it!

I learnt the hard way NEVER turn on folder redirection!

That's ridiculous. You just run the wizard again to turn it off.

Of course, if you don't clear out the Client Side Cache you could run into synch issues. See for details on how to do that.

oh no it isn't!

just look at my thread thread1584-1516215 , and who ever gave me a star on my own thread would obviously agree with me!

It might have worked for you , but it didn't for us!
