MyAdministrator worked fine while on Win98. Upgraded to WinXP and MyAdministrator stalls while connecting. Even tried setting up VMware with a virtual Win98 machine on a W2k3 host, still same problem. Using MA version 3 on a SX-200. Liteware upgraded last month by vendor, presumably to latest level.

Are there pathces for MA? Are there hacks for XP and W2k3 to make MA work? Need help in the worst way.

Wine list - Vendor has become complacent and has yet to find a solution (they still use Win98) after over a year of repeated requests for help. Not within my authority to change vendors, those with authority are disengaged, non-technical people.

What are we doing wrong here? My Administrator works fine on all our XP boxes.

Try turning off the firewall. Not saying that's it, but I've had some other weird things bump into both the Windows firewall as well as 3rd party firewalls, such as Zone Alarm.

Zone Alarm is pretty easy to configure around these little nuisances. Sorry I cannot begin to tell you how to open a hold in Windows Firewall (assuming that turns out to be the problem).

Note Well:
If you have changed the password, beware that you must change them both (maintenance and CDE) and both passwords must be alike (identical). Not sure this is even a 'gotcha' for My Administrator but worth mentioning because it sure will stop you from using the Windows GUI.

If you have the latest software on your ICP, why not just load the WEB GUI? It's nice to work with and you will have access to everything.

thanks for the reply. we don't have an icp, it is a digital sx-200. All communication is via serial rs-232. I installed a serial link monitor to see what was happening. The login is successful, but the transfer of characters is constantly interrupted by long pauses, causing the communications to eventually time out.

I think that better explains the problem w/XP.

Try right-clicking on the application icon then go to properties then click on the 'compatability mode' tab.
There you can place a check mark in the 'run this application in compatability mode for.....' and use the dropdown to select Win98/Me.

Now try to run it again.

are you tring to direct connect to a SX-200? I was under the impression you cannot direct connect with XP and MA, I am close to sure you can't on a MX but not sure on a Digital.

XP is a funny animal when it comes to serial i/o. Since there isn't any more real mode dos, any application which uses real mode drivers and have exclusive control of the UART will fail.

XP serial i/o needs to use protected mode only. Older serial apps therefore frequently won't work.

My suggestion to try "compatability mode" is a shot in the dark that may or may not work and frankly I wasn't optimistic but thought it maybe worth a try.
