Hi,
I jusd reformatted my laptop hard drive and installed WIN2K and in the process of installing the drivers. I installed the drivers for the wirless card and it seems to be working. It found my wireless network and the laptop got an ip address. But when I open the internet browser, it does not open any website. I did an IPCONFIG and there is no address next to the DNS suffix and no numbers next to the default gateway. They don't look normal and I don't know how to troubleshoot them.

Please help.

Thanks

Mo

It might be useful to know if the wireless router you're linking through is able to provide successful Internet connections to another PC.

Have you tried power cycling the router to see if that will help refresh its connection and logon to your ISP?

Was the laptop previously successfully connecting to the Internet through this wireless router?

It suggests that either there is a fault with the router which is not automatically obtaining DNSs, or it isn't set up correctly.

Presumably you can temporarily connect to it using an Ethernet cable. Can you connect to the Internet now? If not, then you can probably eliminate a wireless problem from the equation. With the Ethernet cable connected, I suggest you try viewing the settings within the router, and see if they are correct.

Hi,
Yes, the router is working. I have another computer wired to it and another laptop that is connected using a wireless card. The laptop in discussion can connect to the internet using a wire. And when I go the wireless card set up, I can see the wireless network, it signal, and I was able to connect to it using the passphrase. I just can't open websites.

Thanks for your help.

It may be a pain to do it, but temporarily knock out the wireless security on the router. (Don't forget you may need to reboot the wireless section or the whole router for that to take effect). Reboot the laptop and try making a fresh wireless connection which will now be free of security. See if that makes any difference...

The other thing you could try would be to fix static IP and DNS addresses for the laptop and then see if it will connect.
