Although I'm not officially a programmer, and do not consider myself any where near expert level, I spend nearly all my time coding in VBA and some SQL. I'm on a Novell client for Win NT 4.0 using Access 97. I often experience this really frustrating problem of my code taking a while--sometimes a very LONG while--to appear as I type it.

Has any one else experienced this problem? There have been some other Access problems around here, and a high-level manager has even suggested the possibility of internal 'shenanigans.' Does anybody know if this is something which can be intentionally brought about with a virus or something? I haven't checked performance/processes yet when this happens, but I will the next time. Meantime, if anyone knows about this, please share the goods. Thanks.

Try compacting the .MDB and see if it helps. I've had this problem on a desktop-wide basis and it went away after eliminating some space on the Win desktop and defragging it.

The problem just happened as I was typing some VBA. Sooooo, I compacted the database, and your advice worked, VBAfun.

Thanks a lot.
