It was absolutely fine, but for no apparent reason there is no connection.

I'm hoping somebody might be able to help.

I tried to set up a new connection and a window says

Wizard Error Message
Component GUID: 7071ECA3-663B-4BC1-A1FA-B97F3B917C55
Component file: (C:\Windows\system32\connect.d11)

Additional info:
Failed to detect Internet connectivity

HELP!

Hi - thanks for your reply.

I'm using a friend's laptop which is happy to connect via my wireless network.

It was absolutely fine, but for no apparent reason there is no connection.
What was changed? Odds are this is the problem. . .

How is your system connected (a wire or via wireless)? Whichever it is, try the other.

If you open a command window and enter a PING command to some known ip address, what happens?

Does the system have a dial-up modem? What happens if you try a dial-up connection?

Now you're starting to lose me ....... what is a PING command?
It's connected via wireless, so will try wire and let you know what happens.
Not sure how to do a dial up connection ........ or even if the system has a dial up modem.

Thanks so much for helping me. I really appreciate it.

Oh boy...

PING is a command that sends something like a "knock, knock" to the target ip address. If all is well, there is an "answer". If there is a problem, the request times out. When the command ends, some statistics are presented and it is fairly obvious if it worked or not.

If you want to get into doing your own trouble-shooting, suggest you learn a little bit about networking in general and tcp/ip in particular.

If this is a "once in a lifetime" thing, suggest you talk with your internet provider to resolve the issue(s).

sorry burtsbees.

Thank you papadba.

I've often done my own trouble shooting, through people like yourselves helping / explaining what to do / things that might have happened etc.

If your friend's laptop is connecting successfully through the same wireless router that you were trying to use, then there is nothing wrong with the ISP or the router. If you didn't change any settings on your PC, then a hardware problem is suspect. Have you tried calling Sony support and having them talk you through troubleshooting? They would be the best ones to determine whether something just isn't set right or is actually broken.

Of course, if you changed something in the settings on your PC, then check into whatever you changed. You said that you tried to set up a new connection using the wizard - was that only after it stopped working, in an attempt to fix it? You shouldn't need to use that wizard repeatedly once you have connectivity, unless you install a new network card or something.
