Hi!

I have a problem I can´t understand!. I have a Server running under W2k Server. It seems to be everything alright (I can access Internet and clients at the campus can reach my server through their browsers)

BUT...when I try to ping my server from those same computers, they can not see it! (even though they can use it).....I can´t ping the IP nor its name.

Computers out of the Campus can not even connect to the server......

No Firewall is supposed to be working at the moment at the University, so it shouldn´t be a firewall problem!

Do any of you please have an idea where I should take a look in my configuration files?

Thanks a lot

William

What does ipconfig /all show on the server? Glen A. Johnson

Is the server on a different subnet , sounds like you only have a foward lookup zone on that machine , maybe maybe not

Are you using a proxy server? Using NAT? ICS? Remeber that these services can alter ip addresses from private to public networks. If you are using a router for a cable modem or DSL modem, they normally use NAT to translate addresses.

Hi Thanks for answering so fast! :)

My ipconfig /all states the following:

Windows 2000-IP-Konfiguration

Hostname. . . . . . . . . . . . . : soraya
Primary DNS-Suffix . . . . . . . : uni-flensburg.de
Node Type . . . . . . . . . . . . : Broadcastadapter
IP-Routing aktiviert. . . . . . . : No
WINS-Proxy aktiviert. . . . . . . : No
DNS-Suffixsuchliste . . . . . . . : uni-flensburg.de

Ethernetadapter "LAN-Verbindung 3":

Verbindungsspezifisches DNS-Suffix: uni-flensburg.de
Description . . . . . . . . . . : Intel(R) Advanced Network Services Virtual Adapter
Physikalische Adresse . . . . . . : 00-20-ED-26-AE-E2
DHCP-aktiviert. . . . . . . . . . : No
IP-Adresse. . . . . . . . . . . . : <My IP address>
Subnetzmaske. . . . . . . . . . . : 255.255.255.0
Standardgateway . . . . . . . . . :
DNS-Server. . . . . . . . . . . . : <DNS IP Address>

When I try to ping from a different subnet.....My server doesn´t respond.......it is not offline.....and from that machine (the one in the other subnet) I can actually access to my my server via Browser.

I actually use a proxy server......but like every other server at the University!.... I don´t know what is going on!...

Information from ipconfig seems very ok to me!....gateway address is not shown.....but is that important?

Thanks in advance

William
