my monitor went bad and I replaced it with another. when I hooked everything up my Icons and toolbares are now twice the size they used to be. It takes up so much room on my screen that all of my other screens have to be scrolled back and fourth to see everything. It is driving me nuts! I have tried everything to get them back to normal. Control panel dispaly prefrences ect. Help!!

What resolution is it running at?

Did it come with drivers that have to be installed?

There were no divers or propts to install or recognize the new hardware. How do I change the resolution?

If the resolution is currently 640x480(or less), then you can change it with the slider under 'Screen Area' in Display Properties/Settings.

After the resolution is changed, check in the Display window on the Settings page to see if your monitor's make and model is listed there.
If it's not and there is something like 'Plug n Play' listed, then click on the Advanced button, click on the Adapter tab, and check the listed 'Refresh Rate'.
If it is higher than the max allowable refresh rate at the selected resolution according to your monitor's specs, then on the Adapter page select a refresh rate that's less than the max for the selected resolution to prevent damage to the monitor.

When you replace a monitor, Windows won't always prompt you to install a new driver. The Default or Plug and Play monitor driver should be fine.

Assuming that your video card drivers are properly installed, you should be able to set higher resolutions like 1024x768. Just go back into the display properties and change it under the Settings tab.
