Ok guys I have a new RUNNING mobo, I started it up and in the setup I just chose the "fail-safe settings" option

For some reason or another, it will not boot up into XP home like I have...Im just kinda in the dark on this part maybe someone can throw out something to help me?? Thanks in advance fellas!!!!

It appears your using a brand manufactured xp disc. Those are meant for the original computer the disc came with and only can be ran in windows. You will need to get an actual windows xp disc and not a manufactured one.

well i figured out how to get past it, in XP that command cant run in DOS but d:\i386\winnt.exe can so I did that and i choose the path that the windows info is on and then it says I dont have a harddrive with enough space on it....also, its a WinXP pro cd so maybe I will just get the XP home cd and try it...

There was a moment earlier where you describe a momentary blue screen and then reboot, this is typical of a bad memory module so if you have more than 1 fitted take out one etc

I cannot see the reason for trying to boot from a floppy!

FULL XP is "BOOTABLE" all you should need to do is set the first boot device to CDrom, place the XP CDrom in the drive and restart the machine.

Like I said earlier, if XP is then found, the system says something like "PRESS ANY KEY TO BOOT FROM CDROM" if it doesn't find XP then either your XP is damaged or not a full copy or your drive is having problems reading the disk.
You could try swapping out the CDrom or try a differant XP but either way it should boot from the XP disk.

Well I am getting my grandmothers XP disk today so hopefully this finally works out...Thanks for the help fellas, I'll keep ya updated...

Ok, got the XP home cd, tried it, and it still wont recognize my HDD. Although, in BIOS it does recognize it.

Maybe I could buy a new HDD, do a fresh install of XP, pull everything off my old HDD and put it on my new one, format the old one and then put everything back on the old HDD, its a 200GB Seagate and I dont want to get rid of it....suggestions???

Thanks again!

Alright, XP is setting up right now but on my friends HDD which is IDE cable and mine is a SATA.....If it works on one, it should work on the other right, I only have one hooked up right now.....

When you loaded from the xp cd it should have seen the other hard drive. Im starting to think somethings wrong with your other hard drive. So be prepared you might have already lost your data.

Well it isnt telling me that it isnt reading it anymore, I am trying to get through setup right now....

dodge8604,

Well, I might be wrong but:

Get your floppy and the mobo cd out. It would appear that you are skipping the prompt at the beginning of the XP install where you are asked to press "F6" to install drivers for SCSI & other drives(something like that).

As you have a SATA HD you must create a SATA driver floppy disk and use it during the initial phases of the XP install so that XP can recognize this type of HD.

Your mobo CD should have a "makedisk" application for this.

"I know everything..I just can't remember it all

Yea, I did push F6 and I went to the Seagate website and made HD disk....Im trying it out right now

Well now after the boot screen it just goes blank...that was after I tried to use the HD disk....Im going backwards now! Darnit! Thanks for the help!

Okay Im at a blue screen that says I can either repair the selected XP installantion or continue with a fresh install without repairing. I dont want to lose my information on my harddrive so which option is for me? Thanks again guys!

We shall overcome!

Now we know that this drive is a SATA

Yes press F6

At this point you need the SATA controller driver on a floppy disk NOTHING TO DO WITH SEAGATE!
This SATA controller driver was either supplied on a floppy disk and came with the motherboard OR you will have this driver on the cdrom disk that was supplied with the new motherboard and it needs extracting onto a floppy disk.

Thing is I can't quite believe we have reached 50 posts and we have only just found out you have a SATA hard drive and we still don't know exactly what motherboard you have, or any of the other hardware for that matter.
Anyway:

SO, you need the SATA controller driver on a floppy disk and inserted into the floppy drive when you press F6, if the correct driver is on this floppy point it to XP and enter.
If this driver is correct the hard drive WILL be recognised and you will be allowed to continue with the XP install.
BUT!! before any of this!
HAVE YOU CONNECTED THIS DRIVE TO ANOTHER MACHINE YET? HAVE YOU TAKEN OFF ALL YOUR VALUABLE INFORMATION?

Awesome! So we're going forward now right??? LOL okay i'll take those SATA drivers off the Mobo cd and put em on a floppy and then hopefully she'll boot up!! (knock on wood)

Well I got the drivers I thought I needed but when I try to install it thru the XP setup it says "the file txtsetup.oem could not be found."

? Suggestions? Thanks!

Yup, you haven't copied all the files across, I've seen this before.
Try again with the SATA floppy driver disk, copy everything across, look for that file.
You're nearly there!!!!!!

Okay well I searched the cd for the "txtsetup.oem" file and put that on the floppy along with the SATA drive files that I THINK that Im gonna need. Thanks for the help!

Well now it says

"File \RAID\WINXP\SiSRaid2.sys caused an unexpected error (18) at line 2108 in d:\xpclient\base\boot\setup\oemdisk.c."

?? No clue what that means....Suggestions? Thanks!

Okay there is a Microcenter around me and I think Im just going to take it up to them and see what they say. Im supposed to be getting hired on there anyways :D So my career in computers may be starting soon! LOL

Like I say! it needs to be the correct driver for your SATA controller.
As we still do not know what hardware you have I cannot research which driver you need.
