I dont know what kind of modem i have even after takeing it out of my computer. My problem is that my pc will not detect my modem at all i never have been able to get it to detect it.I had someone build my pc and they really f$%#&%^$ it up i was able to use the modem for one week and ever sence then i have not been able to use it. Any help would be apreciated.

It's pretty hard to tell what type of modem you have by looking at it. Some companies (U.S. Robotics, etc) will have their name on them, but this is not always the case. Best thing for you to do, go out and by a new one. They are ungodly cheap now, and you shouldn't have any problems with your machine detecting it.

If you want to try the one you have again, place it in another slot. It is very possible the slot the card was orignially in is not working....

Thank you for your help , if i had a job right now i would go out and buy another modem lol . But i will try to use it in another slot i did not think of that thanks .

Also look on the modem for the chip id. There really are only 2 or 3 modem chip makers. On one of the chips will be a model number, if you then go to I am sure someone has posted a dirver for it.

Thanks but I've just tryed to put it in another slot and it did not detect it oh well I'll have to go buy one now .

One last thing to try.

Install the modem and check "Don't detect my modem...." and select a Standard 56K modem. One of these standard modems should work. Once it is working you can query the modem and get the exact chip set details in order to download the proper driver.

What O/S are you using?

What sort of modem is it? PCI, ISA?
