Hi,

Why my laptop is shutting off autmatically under MSDOS but not under Windows ?

I'm able to use it under windows as long as i want with no trouble but if i want to boot under dos (ie: to ghost it) the pc shuts down after a copple of minutes.

There is no link between ghost. i tried to boot and to do nothing else ... same problem !!

Could you help me ?

Many thanks for your help.
Regards.

How are you booting to DOS?

Overheating? Can you check the CPU temp in the BIOS?

Turn off power management in the BIOS - there may be some kind of issue there?

Hi,

1st of all, thanks for your help.

i've booted from dos bootable floppydisk.

unfornutely i've nothing in the bios about POWER MANAGEMENT ....

Regards.

stduc is right (as his wife :) ) . If you can not disable the power management in the BIOS then you won't be able to avoid the problem.

its a bad news for me but many thanks for your answers.

Best Regards.

Just work faster... [smile]

Seriously, I would not give up until I've peered into every corner of the BIOS for anything pertaining to MS-DOS or default timeout. The BIOS is doing its job, handing off the ball to the OS. For some reason, it does not see MS-DOS as an OS, and then it timeouts. If there is a timeout it seems it should be adjustable or defeat-able somewhere. Just a ray of hope...the eternal optimist.

Does the laptop feel as if it's hotter when running in DOS? Running certain DOS programmes appears to make the CPU run hotter. I suggest you check the CPU fan, air vents, and heatsink for partial dust and dirt blockages. You might even consider rechecking the seating of the heatsink on the CPU - clean off the old compound and apply some fresh, like Artic Silver.
