Hey All..
I bought Inspiron 6000 with specs that read 'Dell Wireless 350 Bluetooth Internal(2.0 + Enhanced Data Rate' in it. When I open the Bluetooth Manager in About section I see "Version v3.03.02(D)".
Can someone please tell me what this 3.03.02 is? I thought the BT version was 2.0 - per specs.

Also am trying to get a BT headset that would be compatible with my laptop. I see a headset that reads "Compatible with Bluetooth 1.1 specifications, Headset is a class 2 Bluetooth device". Will this work with the laptop?

I see information about 1.1 & 1.2 & 2 specifications but this 3.03.02 is new for me. Also what is this Class 2 device?

Any help or information on this would be appreciated. Thanx a lot for your time in advance.

Class 1 / Class 2 refers to the capabilities of the Bluetooth device - see here for more information.

Re Version v3.03.02(D) - I would assume this relates to the software version of the Bluetooth Manager software, rather than the Bluetooth standard (the 2.0) implemented.

If the Bluetooth driver implemented by the laptop is the Microsoft version, it won't support the headset. You would need to replace the driver with one such as the Widcomm driver. This is not a straight forward process mind you, especially if you have SP2 installed. I managed it by following the instructions here.

Hey ..
Thanx Markso for the reply.
When you write if the BT driver is MS version...it wont support the headset...You mean only this headset(1.1 or 1.2 compatible) or any.

What if I buy BT 2 compatible headset (whenever that is available!!). Will that work with the laptop without having to replace the drivers?

And yes, the laptop has MS Windows XP Home Ed Version 2002 SP2.

Any help on this would be really appreciated!

Markso,
Also the BT Manager in About section shows the version & says "Copyright Toshiba Corporation".
Does this mean that the BT driver is NOT implemented by Microsoft??
Thanx.

Check the Bluetooth Driver properties in the Hardware Device Manager. As Tazuk said, the BT Manager software is not related to the driver.

If it is the Microsoft driver (and I suspect it is), it doesn't support the Headset profile for any device, either Class 1 or 2. It wasn't implemented in the Microsoft BT stack - have to ask BG why [smile].

Rashi,

It may be that Dell implemented a Toshiba Bluetooth stack. If so this does suport the headset profile. It might be best to see if this update is applicable to your machine.

Thanx Tazuk & Markso for your replies.

Markso,
I tried running the update & it directly took me to "Remove BT Stack for Windows by Toshiba". So I assume that the update is in place for the laptop as the laptop was shipped on 6/1/2005. But when I check the drivers list I dont see anything that has A00 in it.
Is there anything else that I can look at for this?

Also, if we assume that if the laptop has Toshiba BT stack in it...will it work with the BT headsets available in the market like IOGear,Jabra,Logitech with BT 1.1/1.2 specs & Class 1 or 2?

Like - "IOGear Bluetooth Wireless Headset Class 2 - GBE201W7". Will this be ok & wont have any probs working with the laptop & also will audio in/out component of the laptop need anything more than just connecting the BT headset to BT manager.

Any thoughts/reply on this will be greatly appreciated!! Thanx

The tosh BT stack will support the BT headsets currently available. Can you borrow one to test?

You shouldn't need to alter any audio in/out settings.
