My Hard Drive is always spinning whenever my PC is on. The red light is on constantly and you can hear it. I'm worried it might wear it out. I'm on XP professional and the drive is a samsung sv4002h 40gb. It never used to do this but the problem seemed to coincide with installing a DVD drive in place of my CD drive. The hard drive is on its own on IDE 0 and the DVD and CDwriter are on IDE 1. The board is a PC chips M810LR socket A with an AMD XP1600+ processor.

Is there anyway I can stop this problem?

You did not say what O/S you are using, but MS find fast will do that. It will look at what you are doing and try to find programs and files to help you. Disable find fast, then look at the dvd software to see if looks for programs to load. XP and W2K come with their own software a slimed down version of Roxio software that will not work with other software. Look to MS web site to see what will work with what you are using. Look to MS,KB for using dvd and other software. This is the reason I keep a win98 and a linux box to do things that I want to do at home.

Hi zlito:
Statement is made, "I'm on XP Professional"...but we all have lapses.
I have mine, too, but I saw that.
