Running Win98, AMD Duron 700Mhz 512MB Dimm memory....I installed Holiday lights (freeware). I have used it before in the past with no problems and now all the sudden I began having problems with my desktop icons and also opening Outlook Express...it takes forever for Outlook Express to load. I uninstalled Holiday Lights, thinking this may have had something to do with it. But I continue to have this problem. I have also noticed my computer is no longer retaining password information....at all. I have to keep retyping passwords...it asks me if I want to save this info, but my system does not save it. Also, my desktop icons keep moving around. When I move the mouse over the desktop the icons switch positions. What is causing this? Please don't tell me my memory is going bad....please!!! I'm not sure if Hoilday Lights had anything at all to do with it.... ANy help is appreciated. Thanks!!!

Hello, puterbug.

Sure sign of Win32.Magistr.24876@mm or a variant of it, with its dancing icons. Check for the info and removal method:

I ran SFC.... Restored any and all files necessary... I have restarted and this has fixed my problem... I have opened Outlook express...no delays... my ICons are back and they appear to be stable. I will try the password test to see for sure if my problems are solved. THanks for the help..greatly appreciated!!

puterbug,

OK, no problem. Just curious to know that you don't even intend to run a virus scan. I would be worried if I'm at the receiving end of your emails.
