Does the printer port just die on its own?Just wondering because I have just come across a 3rd Mxe whose printer port just gave up working.
All the SMDR configurations are set right.SMDR is also enabled for Trunks & Stations. The System Port Assignments programmed as LPR1 Continuous for printer & Application Logic is also programmed okay.
When I connect a serial cable to the port running hyperterminal on my PC & at the same time with my browser telneting 1752, when a call is made ,it shows up on telnet but nothing displays on hyperterminal.
How can the port be made to work again.

Mitel uses pin 20 to "sense" a printer. Pin 20 (DTE Ready) must be "high" for the system to output data. Otherwise it thinks the printer is "disconnected".

Also check the printer status, there might be jobs queued up that are waiting for ctrl characters.

In not directly connected to a <printer>.
I have a connection that comes from the printer port into an external call buffer then to a PC & finally the printer.
The external call buffer is never off & I use the following pin-out for wiring the printer port RS232.

Pin 2 = Pabx
Pin 7 = 0volt
Pin 4 = + volt

This set up works fine but suddenly fails in weeks without any outside inteference.
SXWizard has mentioned something about Pin 20 (DTE ready) that it must be high. You lost me there.Could you please explain further.

Here are my notes to myself on the subject.

The pins with the stars are MUST HAVE.

Pin 20 is not noted as such in my notes and this has served me well for over 20 years.

Your configuration of 2, 7 and 4 also does not fit my notes for either a 25 pin or 9 pin config.

Try the pin config below.

NULL MODEM FOR SX200 PBX

9PIN 25PIN
1 4
2 2
3 3
4 6
5 7
7 5

3 2 *
4 20

2 2* * = Critical
3 3
4 6*
5 7*

On the Mxe the printer port is a DB9 so the 20pin out you pointed out wont apply.
Which pins apply on a 9pin & what do they represent since you are not familiar with the way I wire it i.e. :-
DB9 External Buffer
2 Pabx
4 +volts
7 0volts

Please educate me on the one that has always worked for you.

the only ICP that I have had to use the printer port on is a 200 and in all cases, they were upgrading from a 200EL or 200D, so the existing printer cable worked.

this might help you. it gives you the coresponding pins
DB9 TO DB25 PIN-OUTS
DB9 DB25
1 CD 8
2 Rx 3
3 Tx 2
4 DTR 20
5 GND 7
6 DSR 6
7 RTS 4
8 CTS 5

mitel has always had issues with the printer ports. it seems to be the weakest circuit in the system.very prone to power surges.
