I currently administer two sites, each using a Mitel 3300 running MCD 4.0SP1/10.0.1.22. Embedded Voicemail is setup at site A, and all voicemail boxes for both sites are configured at site A.

I need to setup a Message Waiting Indicator for a mailbox on a programmable key at site B. When I try to program the key in the Multiline Set Key Assignment form I get the error message, “The following error was encountered: The directory number is in use elsewhere.”

Is there any way to get around this and program a MWI for a mailbox that is setup on another controller?

Yes, the system is designed to work that way. I suspect there is a conflict with the number you are trying to program.

What does the maintenance command Locate Number XXXX tell you. (When xxxx = ext number)

Hello kwbMitel,

When I run the maintenance command Locate Number 204 at Site B I get the following return. "The number is not in use."

Also to let you know 204 is a voicemail box only, it is not assigned to any phone. Please let me know if you need any additional info.

I believe the the number has to be programmed -somewhere- before you can program a MWI button. Try adding a keyline somewhere and then add the MWI key.

How are you neworking these controllers?

Cluster?, PNI, Other?

Ralph and kwbMitel, Thanks for the help!

I configured the voicemail box as a Remote Directory Number at Site A, pointing to the CEI at Site B.

At Site B, I added the mail box as a Single Line key on a phone and created a Telephone Directory Assignment for the mail box.

Now the MWI key I programed at Site B works! :)
Thanks for pointing me in the right direction!

Ricky

Actually Ralph it is your fourth. But I would have assumed you had more that that even.
