I've found all sorts of help on how to set up the server end of the MUVPN. The 8 page "User guide" does not help when the client begins having problems.

I have a series of questions that I just can't seem to get answered by the Watchguard knowledge base, and all the support calls were used by another tech while setting up just the firewall. I have this installed on a Windows 2000 server and Windows 2000 client with a standard dialup connection.

Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!

1. I found that the only way I can connect my Win2KPro puter to the server is to set up my DNS servers as the network DNS servers (not my ISP's), and to manually input the WINS server as well. This disables my ability to browse the internet. Is there any *easy* setup that does not require me to set up a duplicate dialup connection with different DNS settings? Right now I'm using one to dial in to the VPN and another to get to the internet. My concern is what kind of finageling am I going to need to do when installing this on a client with a DSL connection where an duplicate connection with different DNS settings isn't an option?

2. I can't find much information on the "virtual adapter". Do I need to use this when dialing in or do I need to use it on a new network connection for drive mapping over the VPN?

3. I've found answers on how to get this $%#@ program off my computer (this was after I had already reformatted), but how to disable the MUVPN program without taking it out of the startup and rebooting?

Like I said, thanks in advance for your help and not making fun of me too much! I'm in way over my head this time and I've learned a few new cuss words over the last week. :)

1.& 2. You can connect using 2 different methods...SHIM or VA (Virtual Adapter). The VA basically creates an icon under your Network & Dialup Connections, you can change the TCP/IP properties to show the DNS & WINS of your network. With the SHIM (sounds like what you are doing), you would need to manually cfg you IP/DNS/GW...and then for DNS, you would add your network DNS IP to the TOP of the list above your ISP DNS #s. This works ok with broadband connections because you usually have a leased IP for a week or more, not sure how it will be with dial-up connection. Hope this helped or gave you more ideas.

Click Advanced on the Mobile User VPN tab. (Check this setting)
A virtual adapter is used for assigning client IP addresses and network parameters such as WINS and DNS. Select the virtual adapter rule for the mobile user:
Disabled
The mobile user will not use a virtual adapter to connect to the MUVPN client.

Preferred
If the virtual adapter is already in use or otherwise unavailable, address assignment is performed without it.

Required
The mobile user must use a virtual adapter to connect to the MUVPN client

3. "how to disable the MUVPN program" You can right click on the "S" symbol down near your PC clock and click "Disable all policies" or something like that. Sorry I don't have access to a client at the moment.

Have a nice day!
