mutiple mail domains - how choose which to send from 2

Hi Guys

OK - what's the trick...? We have a server with exchange 5.5 and two mail
domain names. We can set up users to receive E-mail from either domain name.
That works fine. Now the user wants to send E-mail from either domain...
Currently they can only send with the return address being the
initial/default domain name. How on earth do you set up "one" users mailbox
to send from either domain. Pick and choose so to speak. The mail client is
Outlook 2000. Hope this is a really dumb question with a simple answer. Got
me stuffed, but that ain't hard (grin)

You can't do it with a single mailbox, because each mailbox only has a single primary (sending) proxy address.

You could have a second mailbox with the other SMTP address as its primary proxy, and give the user permissions to send as that mailbox - then they could put that mailbox in the From: box of the new mail message. But the problem here would be that replies to that address would go to the other mailbox as well (every SMTP address in the GAL must be unique), although you could redirect it to the main mailbox via an inbox rule. Messy, though.

Create a mailbox with an email address that corresponds to the second domain and assign that mailboxm to the user in question.
Now open Outlook client, click on New Mail, click on View, select "From Field". Now you have the option to select the second domain mailbox as primary sender of the email.

As an extra for anyone else tackling this one.
- The new mailbox will need "Send on Behalf" permissions added to it from within Exchange administration. Plus the E-mail client will also need - Open additional mailboxes added in exchange services....
