Hey all,

We've got a supervisor moving to night shift. We want to keep her mailbox as is (or at least the ext number the same), but we want the phone to have a different ext. I'm fine with changing the extension, and setting up the voicemail box for the new guy. My only question is how to make the old voicemail box to light up the message light on the phone. I've looked in our Documentation and either cannot find it or don't understand it. If you need any more information, please let me know.

Thanks,

Danny

Multiple voicemail boxes cannot light the same extensions light on a Merlin Legend. You could set-up outcalling depending upon your voicemail so they are notified when a new message is left for the phantom extension.

I know thats not true. Ext 110 also has ext 147 light it up, along with a couple other ones, I think. When the light comes on, the receptionist may have to check up to 4 different mailboxes, she said, to figure out which one it is.

There are a couple of ways to do this.

First, you could change the "OLD" extension to a calling group with NO MEMBERS and make the "NEW" extension the Voice Mail Receiver for that group.

This is the CLEANEST way to do it because when the message is erased, it turns the light off.

OR - you could use OUT-CALLING from the "OLD" Extension's Voice Mail Box (#53- NEW EXT) to turn the light on.

If you use out-calling, you have to manually "DELETE" the message at the NEW EXTENSION.

Merlinman,

You're speaking a language I don't know. None of what you said makes much sense to me (It's my ignorance, not anything you said).

Your first suggestion seems as if when someone dials the old ext (169) the message recorded on the new one (215) will be what they get. Is that correct?

Also, what's "outcalling"?

Telecomboy,

I apologize for my hasty reply. I should have asked for clarification. If out-calling being set up causes a message in box 169 to light the message waiting light on 215, then, in fact, it is possible to cause two mailboxes to light the light on one phone, even if it isn't direct, and that is the behavior desired.

All,

The goal is for each person to have a separate mailbox inaccesible to the other.

Thanks,

Danny

Do you know what you are using for voice mail?

Merlin Mail?
Merlin Messaging?
Audix?

I would assume merlin Mail. When I dial the voicemail (770), I hear "Welcome to Merlin Mail. Please enter extension and pound sign."

Set all mailboxes to class of service 10.

That allows out-calling.

Out-calling allows the Mail Box to call out to some location/Phone?Cell or what ever, to notify someone that a voice mail has been received.

But in your case, you just want to turn on a MESSAGE LIGHT.

Again, to do that, you have to login to each of the PHANTOM Mailboxes and set the out-calling to the *53 I mentioned above.

Merlinman,

I've got the phantom mailbox set up (215) and its class of service is 10. I've logged into the voicemail box, and tried hitting *53106 and #53106 (106 is the extension with a phone that I want to light up when a message is left in box 215).

Both of those get "Entry not understood."

Also, I cannot dial 215 on the intercom to leave a voicemail. The users here aren't going to use this if they can't just pick up the phone and dial 215.

Thanks,

Danny

Log into the mailbox, select option 6 - Outcalling, 4 to enter the outcalling number, follow the prompts to enter and confirm #53106 as the outcalling number, then backup and use option 1 to torn outcalling ON.

Now, if you no longer have a physical ext 215, you need to renumber an adjunct to 215, and add it to coverage group 30.

TouchToneTommy,

How do I renumber adjuncts? and does there actually have to be something physically there?

Danny

Using outcalling to turn on a message light is something new to me. I have always used calling groups to turn on an off a message light for a second voice mail box.

find an unused calling group and renumber it to ext. number (169) you want to use. overflow the calling group to you voice mail calling group, quite offen 770. go to message under the calling group feature in programing enter the new calling group number, next the ext. number you want to turn the light on (215). Since you already had a mail box you are done. Any time the light it could mean that either or both have messages. If you listen to all the new messages in one box it will turn off the message light, there could still be messages in the other box, The system will turn the light back on at the cycle.

dparrott it sounds to me like you may need "outside" help in doing this.

All you have to do is ask, and one of us can take care of this for a nominal fee.

That is, if you want to go that route.

I will also say, the CALLING GROUP Option is a bit cleaner, but it too will probably be over your head, based on your posts so far.

So please, let us know how you want to proceed.
