Hi,

I'm running a Merlin Magix with an Intuity voicemail system, and Legend MLX phones (mostly MLX-10DP's), with an auto-attendant programmed.

I have a user who is responsible for two separate extensions. One is his own, the other is a general sales inquiry line. His physical phone is extension 102, and when he gets a voicemail message on that extension, his voicemail light lights up. The other extension is 196, which does not correspond to any physical phone. He has a primary cover button for 196. When he gets a voicemail message on the 196 extension, his voicemail message light does not light up. Is there any way I can indicate to him that he has voicemail on extension 196? It would be acceptable to have two message lights, or one combined message light. It would also be acceptable (but not preferable) to put messages from either extension into one mailbox.

Thanks for any help.

Kurt

Sorry, I mistyped in my last post.

Yes, 102 is the only member of the renumbered calling group 196. Dialing 196, Ext 102 rings, but it never goes to voicemail. I've checked that overflow is set correctly as well. While dialing 196 from one phone, as it is ringing at 102, if I dial 196 from another phone, I DO get voicemail for extension 196.

You need to remove all vestiges of the old extention 196. What did you remember the old 196 extention to? Dial into its new number via central programming and remove the cover buttons for ext 101 and 102 from it. Also go into Cover Group 30 and remove whatever ext# you renumbered it to. Then retry calling the new ext 196 (calling group). ext 102 should ring since it is a member - and after the overflow time period it should go to voicemail. Check audix and make sure there is only a mailbox for 196. If there is a mailbox for whatever you renumbered the old 196 ext to - get rid of it.

I actually started this last set of tries with a new set of extensions, so I don't think I'll find anything. I'm going to run a printout tonight of the entire system and see if it shows anything remaining from before that might impact on this.

The only thing that can impact it is the possible confusion of the 2 mailboxes in Audix AND the renumbered old ext 196 cover buttons. So - just try what I suggested in the previous post - get rid of all of the programmed buttons on whatever the old ext 196 was renumbered to. Then check Audix to make sure only the new ext 196 exists - and whatever the old one was renumbered to is removed. Also remove whatever the old ext 196 was renumbered to from Cover Group 30. Then try dialing 196 again - and report back on what happens. If it works as it should - i.e., 3 or 4 rings on ext 102, and then flows to voicemail for the new 196 - you should be set. Then - try selecting 196 fromthe Audix AA - and make sure it works the same.

When I created 196, I renamed it from a 4 digit adjunct. So when I renamed it, I renamed it back to the 4 digit. I dont see cover buttons on it, they seemed to stay with the old 196. Audix doesn't show a mailbox for that extension.

Just to be sure, I created a whole new group, 778, set up for overflow, message, and the only member an extension that's never had cover buttons, that hasn't been changed from day one - 110. I renamed group 778 to 198, and on Audix created subscriber 198 so it would have a mailbox.

Same results - 198 rings on physical extension 110, but doesn't go to voicemail. If I then dial 198 from another phone while it's still ringing, this call does go to voicemail.

Thanks for all your efforts. I'll print a full system status and review it in the morning.

I am not familiar with Audix - just Merlin Messaging or Legend VoiceMail. When you create a mailbox in Audix - are you asked if it "has a phone". If so - you need to tell Audix that 196 or 198 "has a phone". I'll noodle on this tonight - maybe Merlinman can help out here - since I am obviously missing a step or have something screwed up. I assume you changed the group type for 196 or 198 to autologin from the default of autologout - that's important.

Make a mailbox in AUDIX for x196 that's an Automated Attendant, only don't give the user any button choices. Instead, set the zero/timeout option to 1 second, which then performs a call-answer on mailbox 102 (you could perform a transfer as well, if you wanted).

This is the usual trick for getting one AUDIX mailbox to provide call-answer service for two different extensions. There are a couple of other ways to do this, which you can find by searching for "AUDIX, multiple extensions" in the Definity forum. But this is the way I've always done it.

Anyway, here's what happens: When x196 goes unanswered, the caller will hear any brief greeting you've recorded, a one to two second delay, then Audrey's curt little "Please Wait". Control of the call then follows mailbox 102, and the caller will finally hear that mailbox greeting. The message will be deposited in mailbox 102.

I'm sure this will work, but I'm gonna break protocol and give Tom a star myself. He showed a lot of stamina on this one. Way to go, dude!

Sorry I was away. I was cleaning up the system, deleting any stray ends that relate to this. I also switched over to a physical extension that is not covered anywhere, and a newly defined calling group.

When I create a mailbox in Audix (on the Intuity), I just do an add subscriber. There are two pages of entries for an extension, but none seem to be related to indicating that the extension has a phone.

To sum up (using the new numbers), I had a group, 778, with one member, 110 (an extension physically set to a phone line), with Autologin, Overflow set to group 770 (voicemail) message based = 99 time based = 4 and overflow prompt on. That group was renamed to 198. There are no phones set as primary or secondary cover of 110 or 198, and no group covers for 198 or 778. I've confirmed by Print/ExtInfo that 110 has one group calling Member (198) and one group calling log in (198). Print/CallingGroup shows calling group 198 with one member, 110, Overflow set to group 770 (voicemail) message based = 99 time based = 4 and overflow prompt on.

As a longshot, I've tried changing hunt types but no change.

Interesting info: when I call 198, it rings on physical ext 110 forever. If I use Feature *44 to logout of groups on 110, when I call 198, it goes to voicemail for 198.

I just saw dagwoodsystems' post and I'll try that as well. It's a little less preferable as I think the way Tom was heading preserves two separate mailboxes, but at this point the main thing is to not have the second extension's voicemal messages be ignored because the lamp's not lit.

I really appreciate the help I've received on this. I'll be back to report results.

Thanks!

I implemented dagwoodsystem's approach and it works. I needed to delete the outgoing message for 196, and it still rings long (I need to allow enough rings for either extension to answer if dialed, and I don't think I can delete or change Audrey's message (who dubbed her Audrey?)). But it lights the light for messages coming in from either line, so now my user will at least remember to get his messages.

I'll keep looking for why in Tom's method it wont forward the group to it's mailbox, if I find anything I'll post back.

This forum is a great source of information from previous posts, and you guys have been great. Thanks!

Audrey Audix is the nickname for Lorraine Nelson. Formerly a jazz DJ, she now has her own company (doing voice work) in Portland, Oregon. You can hire her to do the greeting for mailbox 102 if you wanted!

She's kinda cute, too. See her at and check out some of her custom greetings at
The one she did for Dunkin Donuts makes me laugh for some reason. Her golden voice just doesn't seem to jive with apple fritters.

I've always wondered who the person was behind the voicemail prompts. I'd recognize that voice anywhere [bigsmile]

Would message forwarding work for your situation? Forwarding a message from one Mbox to another Mbox?

I don't know if the Audix has that feature, but the Messaging 2000/OCTEL does and I have used that feature to forward messages from one box to another box where they wanted multiple MWI on one phone. This feature has worked very well for one of my clients.

Hope this helps!
