I'm working on a book that has two different languages, meaning I need two different section markers per section (one for each language). Is this possible, or do I need a different master page for each section, so I can use static text?

Alternately, perhaps I could use text variables, if they could be changed from document to document in a book. So, I put a text variable placeholder in a master page, use that master page throughout the book in different documents (each document is a chapter), but the text variable changes from document to document.

Or perhaps there's a better way to have two section names or chapter names?

Wholeheartedly use variables, such a time saver. If you think that someone will be editing this in CS2 in the future then use section markers, but variables rock.

I have something similar going on.

I just set up a variable called running head. Then I choose for it to pick up on a character style I created called Running Head. It's a completely blank Character Style. Now any time that I need some text to appear in the running head, I just select the text, apply the Running Head Character style and you're done.

You can do this with paragraph styles too, but I found I didn't have enough flexibility, what if I wanted some text to be in the running head, but not in the style of the Chapter Name?

I also found that you put the Chapter No. into the Running Head too, and you can have as many variables as you like in there at the master page.

You don't need multiple master pages anymore for Running Heads, unless you're going to change the background colour or something.

It's truly marvelous working with variables. I can't even begin to describe my joy of this feature.

For example: I have one book in particular that needs to have the Heading of the first paragraph in the Running Head. It's fantastic. It just picks up the style and inserts it.

Another thing if you're doing this, if you don't apply a style to the Variable on the master page it will use the style on the page for it.

You can define the variable with a paragraph style, smaller type size, italic etc.

It's sooo flexible.

I though that text variables couldn't change between documents in a book, but then I found that under Synchronize Options I can choose not to synchronise text variables, so they will be different from document to document. I think this will serve my purposes.
