We have sharepoint portal server 2003(with mssql server 2000) installed on win2003 server.
This hosts sites that need authenticated access as well as anonymous access. Mostly we use default installation.
For authentication purposes we use existing domain with active directory.(say AAAA domain)

We have site : With site setting, administration, anonymous access :
Allow – entire website
Allow all authenticated users access – No (because we allow entire access this is assumed not necessary)
- Yes (reader) : even enabled for test basis
- THIS DID NOT HELP to solve the problem

When someone (haven’t logged into AAAA domain , but logged into another IT domain – say BBBB ) access document(in document library) he is prompted for password.
This is not intended because “anonymous access” is ALLOWED at above settings.

If he cancel, it prompts back 5-8times. If he cancel to all those prompts he can get access to the document. All these prompts are unintended because we allowed anonymous access at the site level.

IIS settings :
Using default website, permissions, read/read-execute/list allow(nothing disallowed)
IIS properties, directory security, authentication, anonymous enabled

NTFS :
C:\Inetpub\ : has anonymous access (read,read-execute,list)

patches : system is uptodate with windowsupdate.microsoft.com

I tried following too.. But no good.

I have a simular issue. I have set up a guest account in IIS with the user/pass as guest/guest. However, when I try to log on with that acct in sharepoint, it asks for the domain as well. I do know that sharepoint is using authentication from Active Directory. Could this be the problem with anonymous access? If so, how do I set up a guest account?

Thank you in advance!

Hello,

Have had similar problems here, but they did get solved when I also allowed ALL authenticated users to access the site as READERS. I also assumed that I should not need to set that, but after I did access to the site works fine.

I also added the site to Local Intranet Zone in the webbrowser (because that can also be necesary at times).

Regards,
Thomas
