Ok i have fired up the printers with varying results...

the 840 with the hard drive powered up ans asked for letter sized cleaning paper, took me a while to work out which plug was the correct one on the trays to fill to get it going,,
it took that and shot out the page of lines.. so far so good..
it then asked for a4 paper to clean.. and all it did was report media jam open front cover.. i have had a look, and cant see any obstruction, it will take paper through if you do it manually but not under it,s own steam

the second 840 does the same

the 850 asked for paper to clean, but then decided to throw a fit and reported error 15004 45 20673 and now just seems to continuosly warm up, i,m not sure i was swapping trays and maint trays between the machines, and may of given them a hiccup

what is the best option to look at first?
or can i get a copy of a service / diagnostics manual on the net anf d go from there

the 15,004.45 is the drum heater you will need to replace the bulbs. There is a thread somewhere on here that descibes the whole process. On the 840's turn the printer off and make sure you have only the top hole plugged on the paper tray then turn the printer back on. the printer will ask for whatever size paper you had selected when the job was sent. Give it a try and let me know what happens

840 will do i will try later...

re the 850, will the bulbs from the 840 fit?? if so i will cannabalise one of them

Ok i managed to get some heavyer paper and some card stock, and tried the guide cleaning techniques ,,

i now can get a good test / stripes page, (only one black stripe partially missing)

however i cannot get it to print from the sheet feeder, it still jams at the point where it feeds under the heaters (the small pcb sensor area)

I am missing some fingers in the guide near the drum, so get a bit of a bump on the paper edge when feeding manually ,,

this i will come back to..

I replaced the fingers on the lower door, as some were missing, but still it jams.. any help would be apreciated.

The 850, i cannabalised the the other 840 and replaced the lamp assy in the 850, many differences in assembly between the two, but managed it. It fires up and the lamps start flashing, it asks for a cleaning sheet, which i have placed in the manual feed slot, but nothing happened yet..

not sure how long it takes to warm up from fully off, all the gears cycle, and the heater lamps flash, i believe there is a h/d in this one as this kicks in after a while (steper motor),,
the upper green led on the front panel is lit, and the red one just flashes is this normal , or have i missed something

Well gave the 850 an extended run today .. haha

it gave two errors,

22 500 00 20673

13 011 63 20673

i have deduced that the last block is the page count,

i performed a power off / on as suggested on the xerox site,

the faults appear to have cleared, but the printer just sits there asking for a cleaning sheet. The drum rotates, the bulbs now flash, and all the cogs/ belts turn and cycle,

I believe the other fault is to do with the tray assys. i din note when i removed/ replaced the blue runners underneeath, there was a loose piece of balck plastic, i have a feeling this is an important piece..

also i have noted that the two arrow like fingers on the blue lower (maint tray area) guides have got broken, typically it has also happened to my spares machine, is this and or the black piece of plastic related to the non loading paper??

tried the 850 again today,,

it initialises, and asks for a cleaning sheet, and then the drum turns and the lights flash, and thats all it does.

cant get it to run the paper through

any ideas anybody??
