Is there a way to have multiple people doing data entry within and access database at the same time. They would be entering unique records. Currently it errors out saying there is someone else in the file and it cannot save any changes. This is in access 2003.

Thanks for any input,
Lurch

There shouldn't be a problem with that, you can't have multiple people making design changes etc but just entering data should be fine.

The obvious solution would be to split the database assuming you haven't done so already, give each user their own copy of the front end with all linking to the same back end.

Or just install the runtime client (not the full access) and then it is never asks. Plus if you get the office developer package, you can install it on any machine that you have created a database for.

Thanks for the input im gonna try the database splitting, it sounds like the best solution for me.

biglurch,

If I recall correctly, in the File/Open dialog box there is a check box for "open exclusive" (or something to that effect). Check or uncheck as needed. I believe this option is file specific and remains until changed back (i.e., it does not effect other files and you do not have to uncheck the box every time you open the file).

The only complication would be two users trying to Edit the same record at the same time.

Good luck!
Tim
