Multiple IPs on Networker client system

I have the 5.7 client on a Windows 2000 server. There are two NICs in the server. The problem is that the Networker Server has an entry based on the primary IP (registered in DNS). The second NIC/IP is reserved for future use (future DNS assignment). When I try to use the client, I get errors from the server about an access violation indicating that the second NIC is being used for communications. Is there a way to direct or bind the Networker client to the primary NIC/IP? Or is there something I should tell the sys admin about configuring the Networker server to recognize both IPs?

THis could be a problem because of the entry in the host file of your client machine. I know how to resolve it in UniX client boxes ,check the /etc/hosts file and see if u have entries for nsrhost and nsrserverhost. see if it is against the primary IP address. Similarly there shud be an entry in the hosts file in NT( donno much bout NT though). see if u can spot any such host files and entriess for nsrhost and nsrserverhost.

hope this helps

Thanks for the info. I'll pass it on to the sys admin since he is dealing with Unix boxes. It is handled differently in Windows 2000 (and I presume NT). There are no entries in the hosts file other than localhost.

However, I was able to resolve the problem by changing the "Interface Metric" on the second NIC to 2 (default is 1). This setting indicates the cost of routes associated with the NIC. The system will use the lower cost connections first. I don't know if this is the best answer or whether or not it will affect the performance when this server eventually goes into a production environment.
