Multiple hard drive failures

I had a hard drive fail in a computer at work last week. I replaced it with a brand new hard drive and 6 days later the same thing happened. It completely failed and is not recognised in the BIOS.

Is it possible that something else in the computer is making it fail? Could a virus cause such distruction? Is it just a co-incidence?

I thought it might be because the hard drive is installed in the chassis on its side (the computers at my work were bought in on the cheap) but have been told that this shouldn't be a problem.

I'd be really grateful if anyone could help.

Thanks

This is one of many to check. Just have time to list this I think is most relevant to the post,,, IMO.

Check the power from the wall, making sure the line is not backwards, and it has a ground. Small opening is hot, and the large is the return. Using a multi-meter, small (hot) opening & the ground should give you 117 to 125vac, (good), return & ground 0 ohms (good) any thing else have some one look at it.
