We have two domains xyz.com and abc.com in windows 2000 and exchange 2000 server. We have our own DNS server. We are now using xyz.com domain for email.I want some users to receive emails on both domains.I did the necessary procedures on exchange server but still cannot use abc.com domain successfully. Is there anything to do on dns server so that both domains will be active.
Thanks for any help

automotionshade.com preference = 0, mail exchanger = silent-server1.silentgliss.ca

silentgliss.ca preference = 0, mail exchanger = silent-server1.silentgliss.ca

Okay, this looks good. You should be fine now as long as your Exchange server accepts mail for the automotionshade.com domain.

Chris.

But I cannot connect to automotionshade.com:
> telnet automotionshade.com 25
the error message could not open a connection to host on port 25:connection failed.

and I cannot receive emails yet

That is because your mail server is not on automotionshade.com (IP 216.254.136.152) it is on silent-server1.silentgliss.ca (IP 216.254.178.93). Try telnetting to port 25 on it and you get a connection.

ok. I have connected to silent-server1.silentgliss.ca, which is great.
But until now I cannot receive on automotionshade.com
or do I have to wait for some time ?

It doesn't look like your smtp server is configured correctly. I got the following when I telnetted into port 25, and tried a standard helo command:

220 ***********************************************************************0*2**
****2***********************200*****0***0 *0*00
500 5.3.3 Unrecognized command

Excellent news.
Now I managed to receive at automotionshade.com
This is great.
I thank both of you for your information and patience.
And from my side I will also be more than glad to help other that need my help.
Thank you again.you were great

That's all working fine. However, I'm going to have a guess here that you've got a PIX firewall in front of your mail server with mail guard running on it (fixup protocol smtp 25)....

[chris@caesium chris]$ telnet silent-server1.silentgliss.ca 25
Trying 216.254.178.93...
Connected to silent-server1.silentgliss.ca (216.254.178.93).

quit
221 2.0.0 silent-server1.silentgliss.ca Service closing transmission channel

Some sending mail servers use the 'ehlo' command rather than the 'helo' command. Unfortunately the PIX intercepts the 'ehlo' command and won't permit the SMTP session, so some people might have trouble sending you mail. If you get this problem then the answer is to turn on mail guard on the PIX.

Good luck,

Chris.
