I have a customer who had a old NEC 1400. I have just installed a BCM 400 w/3.6 software. They have PRI w/DID's and they have two appearances of their DID appear and ringing on the phones. Now they way I always thought the BCM/Norstar works is that if the target line is set to appear and ring, all appearances will appear and ring, albeit any appearances that ring while the first one is in use will ring at 1/2 volume. This customer finds this annoying and wants the first appearance to ring and the second one NOT to ring..Is this possible??? Thanks in advance to any help I get...

DND defeats the purpose of the two DID keys as you not only don't get a ring on the second , you don't get the call at all. it will go to the FWD BSY DN if programmed.

bkrike, I will see if that works...but I wnat the second appearance to appear, just not audibly ring, I think your idea will just stop the second line from ringing completly, in which case I might as well only put one appearance on each phone. In any event, I will try it and let you know what happens.

Uhh... thanks, but I have been doing this for the last 15 years and I already know what happens.

Hate to break this to you buddy...but your fix didnt work, the second DID appearance still will ring even if the first appearance is being used...Any other ideas would be helpful

So now you’re saying that both myself, and Ace, were incorrect in our assumptions?

Perhaps you are having a bad day. Ace hit my issue right on the head and his questions is at odds with your answer. If you enable DND on busy the 2nd DID appearance is no longer useful. I was able to mollify the customer by turning DND on busy and having any additional calls go to the Callpilot, but that isnt what they really want. The one thing I didnt try was CFB to a non active extenstion..but leaving the DND on busy field to Y and leaving the CFB field blank didnt work...it still rang in on the second DID.

Have you tried a call foward on busy to a hunt group and then set the hunt group key to be an appear only.

DND issues aside...if I understand what you want to know, you cannot have multiple appearances of target lines have different ringing attributes.

You could use 2 hunt groups and the assign them as keys to the telephone.

Hunt group 1
Broadcast
if busy goto overflow hunt group 2
Assigned ext 221 key ring and appear or just ring only
Assigned line 241

Hunt group 2
Broadcast
If busy queue, queue timer 180, Back on its self
assigned ext 221 appear only
Assigned line none

It is not ideal but it would work.

I know this is an old post, but I wonder if Pats14 ever found a solution.

We basically want something similar in our office. Our old AT&T Definity would give one audible ring on the second appearance if the first was in use and then just flash for the remaining "rings" before going to VM. This still gave the user the opportunity to answer the second call, yet have only a short audible interruption. I can't figure out the same for the BCM 3.7.

What people have been doing is pressing the DND button after the first ring on the second appearance.

I'll have to admit that all 4 rings on the second line while you're on the phone is quite annoying.

Any ideas?
