Hey guys,

I'm a newb to POS, but have recently taken on a project for a client. I installed a 2nd POS station with receipt printers, etc as well as a 2nd cr cd swipe. Can I use more than one swipe (dial out) on a single phone line?

My common sense says no, but like I said, I'm new to this stuff.

Any advice or help will be greatly appreciated. :)

More info should probably be given.

On most POS systems using a dial up connection, usually there is a master terminal or server that handles the CC transactions and one modem. If pos1 has the line for a transaction and pos2 gets a swipe, usually the processing terminal holds the line and sends the second request on through. If you are running two stand alone pos terminals, then they need to be programmed to keep trying for dial tone for a specified amount of time in the event the other pos has the line. Then time out to an error after that time period.
Is that what you are asking?

Bo
