I have recently added a new Subnet that is being administered by someone else. I believe he set up a DHCP server unknowingly or is just being an A$$ and not being honest with me.

I need to know if there is a utility that would allow me to find all the DHCP servers on the same Physical Network. I keep getting the following Event ID 1011 on my DHCP Server:
"The DHCP Server issued a NACK to the Client {mac address} for the address {IP Address} request"

This is an NT 4.0 SP6a also my PDC. My clients are getting access denied when trying to renew their IP Addresses. This is driving me up a wall and I am about to have a not so nice confrontation with this guy if I cant resove this issue.

Thanks
Alex

The easiest way I can think of is to perform a little testing...

Stop your DHCP service & try to renew a DCHP lease (I.E. on win95, run winipcfg & elease all, then try to renew. On W2k run ipconfig /release then ipconfig /renew)
If your pc cannot find a dhcp server then either there is no other or his DHCP server is also stopped.

Thanks for the tip Looks like that may work !

Another problem you will run into is if the DHCP service is running on the other machine and there are no scopes configured. The server will still respond to clients and then tell them that there are no addresses available. just kill the service on his machine and see if the clients can get an address then.

Since you are on your PDC i assume you are Domain Admin. So you should have no problems shutting his machine down to test if need be. ( outside of Politics ) Thanks

I found it with Server Manager he didnt have it on all the time but I happened to catch it while it was up. He had a test 2K Server in his office that he was 'practicing with'. I shut down his DHCP service, he was unware that it was on. So much for honesty...............I hate liars
