The company has created a new department that is to operate autonomously in preparation for it to be spun off as a separate entity. We are considering setting them up in their own customer group. Currently the Option 61C has a single group [customer group 0] and we are looking at making the new department customer 1.

I have been looking through various Nortel practices for additional details, which have now left me somewhat confused.

In regards to multiple customer groups how much of the equipment gets shared between the customer groups? My understanding is the two customer groups operate independently to the point if they want to call one another they call in and out of the PSTN on their trunk feeds.

What I am confused about is to what degree is the IPE and core loop slots shared ?

I have come to the conclusion that you can setup your system to be partitioned or non-partitioned.

In a PARTITIONED dual customer install you dedicate an IPE shelf to one customer. In the core I assume you dedicate a whole superloop to one customer.

In a Non-partitioned dual customer install it seems the IPE shelves can have a mix of customer one and customer 0 equipment. I am not sure how far that goes. To make it simple to explain if shelf 004 has two digital line cards 004 0 0 and 004 0 1 can one put customer 0 and 1 sets on each digital line card or is a whole card dedicated to a single customer - 004 0 0 is for customer 0 and 004 0 1 for customer 1 ? The customers are sharing a shelf but not sharing cards; or the feature allows different customers to use TNs on the same IPE digital line card.

Similarly in regards to dual PRI cards in the core can customer 0's trunk be on the first circuit and customer 1's use the second PRI or is the whole card dedicated to a single customer ?

Can someone clarify the impact of multiple customer groups on your equipment platform?

Thanks

Hardware is all common - As you assign phones and T1s channels etc, you assign the customer number. It is up to you how to split hardware.

If they are their own Customer, then they will need their own trunks, BARS, the works. You are building a system from scratch if you build a new customer - the only thing in common is the LD17 CFN and the hardware.

You can have TN 4 0 5 5 in customer 0 and 4 0 5 6 in customer 1, so don't worry about where the TNs are. Also consider all the things like PRIs, RANs, CDR, etc. etc, you will need to duplicate in the other customer group.

Tenant is a little cheaper and you can still disallow tenant to trunk if you need to.

Multi tenant is what I use for one of my hospitals. It works well.
