Hi,

I search the threads and can not seem to find the answer. It may be standard knowledge to you folks, but I don't know the answer.

We have a 4CPU Compaq Box runing Win2k Server. From MS website it says it can support up to 4 CPU on one box.

The question I wanted to know whether you can run 3 CPU?

I know most combination seems to be Single, Dual, and Quad. Will there be an issue w/ running 3 cpu?

I look forward to hearing from everyone soon.

Not a problem. I had a boss who was cheap and wouldn't buy the 4th processor, for 3 of our servers. Guess what, we are upgrading and adding the 4th. It is costing us more then we would have paid upfront.

So 3 CPU will run just fine? The taskmanager will show 3 processors?

3 is just a strange number, so wanted to verify. Thnaks :)

Yes, 3 is just fine. Think of it this way. You buy a 4 processor server and one fails. You will only have 3, but the server will still boot and work. Depending if your processor supports Hyper-Threading you will see 2 x Processors. If you have 3 you will see 6!
