To install multiple versions:
Install in separate directories with each notes.ini in each program directory NOT in the windows directory. Optionally use the =path\file.ini parameter to specify the ini file location although this should not be needed if the shortcut specifies the startup directory.
To install one version with multiple desktop layouts:
Use the = parameter to specify the ini file. The ini file can specify the desktop.dsk path, the data directory path and the user id file path.
To run multiple versions of Notes at the same time:
Use a shortcut to start NLNOTES.EXE, with the ADMINONLY parameter to start the administrator under R4 and R5, with the /DESIGN parameter for designer under R5. This bypasses the "am I already loaded" check that notes.exe does. Warning you can get into big trouble if you access the same databases (even through directory links) at the same time. I would only use this for running a totally separate environment at the same time. It is not 100% reliable!
To easily swap between several user ids:
Create a location document for each user or function (eg: "Dale", "Developer", "Super Admin", "Test User" and specify the user id file to switch to in the location document. If you have installed single login for NT, and you give them all the same password as your NT user id the the switching will be transparent and not prompt for password. And you can look at the location menu in the right of the status bar to remind yourself of who you are logged in as.
Hope one of these is useful to you

Get a head start in Lotus Notes by leasing a range of applications from:
Here are the steps I have come up with for having multiple Notes users on a single workstation. There are two sections, one for already having a client install and need to add others and section two for new installs. Hope this helps.
Multiple Notes Mail Install on Single Work Station – Using Existing Configuration Files
Step 1 is to MOVE the NOTES.INI file from C:\LOTUS\NOTES to C:\LOTUS\NOTES\DATA
Step 2 is to copy existing C:\LOTUS\NOTES\DATA to C:\LOTUS\NOTES\DATA1 or 2. Create a new DATA directory for each user on the workstation.
Step 3 is to delete all .DSK and .NSF files from the newly created C:\LOTUS\NOTES\DATA1 or DATA2 or DATA?….. directory.
Step 4 is to edit the notes.ini file in the C:\LOTUS\NOTES\DATA? directory and delete all lines after the KitType=1 line.
Step 5 is to go to the icon created for the new user and double-click. Notes will then go through a new client setup for the new user. After going through the setup, Notes should be correct.
If the .dsk and .nsf files and the Notes.ini file is not done this way, what happens is the information inside these files are for the existing user and are transferred to the new user. Hence, the new user does not have access rights to the existing users files.
