I have a problem with Microsoft Project adding it's own calendar version (many of them) to my project files. I am not sure why. I delete them in organizer but they must still reside somewhere as they keep coming back.

Listed under Tools -> Organizer -> Calendars

ie): Sample Calendar <- this is my original
Sample Calendar1
Sample Calendar2
Sameple Calendar3
etc, etc, etc.

Which version of Project?

Are you deleting them from your project or from Global.MPT?

Start with a blank project
Add 5 tasks t1, t2, t3, t4, t5
Add 3 resources r1, r2, r3
Assign the resources to the tasks.
Tools > Organizer > Calendars

Report back what you see in both the left right right columns.

Hello. Here is what shows up:

'Global.MPT:
24 Hours
Night Shift
Standard

'Project2:
Standard

Calendars available in:
Global.MPT

Calendars available in:
Project2

Sorry, I'm using Microsoft Project Professional 2003

Well, it seems that your extra calendars have disappeared.

If the problem resurfaces, start a new thread.

Hello again. I just opened one of my existing project files (all are linked to a resource pool) and the same problem exists. I would send a snap shot but I can't seem to upload an attachment. Here is how it looks....

'Global.MPT':
24 Hours
Night Shift
Standard

'Shifts.mpp':
Shift
Shift1
Shift2
Shift3
Shift4 <-keeps going on forever

Calendars available in:
Global.MPT

Calendars available in:
Shifts

Ah ... a resource pool ... you didn't mention that before.

I've seen a variety of issues with resource pools before (but never this one).

I can't recreate the issue but the following steps may help you to resolve it.

1. Get a printed set of instructions from MS Project

Start MSProject
in the help box in the upper right type "stop sharing resources"
in the Search Results select "stop sharing resources"
in Project Help select "disconnect from all files" to display all the steps
print out the help instructions

2. Disconnect/break the link from the Resource pool to projects
Open the Resource Pool
Tools > Resource Sharing ... Share Resources

Note the names of all projects sharing the resources

Follow the Help instructions to break the link
Save all files (except, as stated in the Help file, the temporarily generated master project)
Exit MS Project

3. Remove extra calendars from Resource Pool
Start MS Project
Open the Resource Pool
Delete any unnecessary calendars.
Save the Resource Pool
Close the Resouce Pool

4. Remove extra calendars from projects
for each file you noted in step 2 above
Open the project file
Delete any unnecessary calendars.
Save the project file
Close the project file

5. Re-establish resource pool links
Open the resource pool
Open each project in turn
Tools > Resource sharing > share resources
Chose "use resources from" and select the resource pool
Select the radio button for file precedence
Save the project file
Save the resource pool file
Exit from MSProject

6. Determine if calendars are correct
Start MSProject
Open one of your projects
The additional calendars should have disappeared.

Thanks. I'll give it a try. Thanks again

So far so good. I checked this morning and so far no additional calendars. Thanks for all your help. Very much appreciated.
