hi all :)
I am trying to do a Multiload on the mainframe to teradata.

INWARD_QTY (DECIMAL(8),FORMAT'99999999S')

What does the S stand for in the Format? Do you know of any ramifications from changing the S to a 9?

Thank you!

where did u see that format.... also wat problem arise for you if u use S.... if u want to insert negative number why don't u use casting like

cast(col1 as decimal(6,2))

regards

sridharan

The S indicates the multiload is expecting the number is a signed zoned decimal.

The digit designated by the S can have the following values
digit Positive number Negative number
0 { }
1 A J
2 B K
3 C L
4 D M
5 E N
6 F O
7 G P
8 H Q
9 I R

This is from the Teradata RDBMS Reference - Data Types and Literals.
