Hello, other than just using up another IP are there any glaring reasons why not to assign a second IP to the NIC on an Exchange 2007 server. Its purpose is intended soley to alleviate any potential conflicts where applications are utilizing the machine as an SMTP gateway and the process to gather ALL the machines that use the old machine would take too long.
In the intermim we would like to give it the additional IP address which will be the old SMTP server. Also we will be changing the old dns (A) record to point to the Ex2007 as well.
I know that this isnt the "right" way to handle this but technically will it cause any glaring issues? Thanks for any insight!
