I need to open and edit a multi-page TIF file. So far, I can get Photoshop to open the file, but it only allows access to the first page. Is there some way to get each page onto a separate layer - or maybe specify which page I want to edit (like Photoshop supports for PDF files.)

I've never heard of a multi-page TIF file - what's the file extension? In any event, Photoshop is a single image editor - you can have all the images you want in single "page", but it can't do multiple pages. By chance is this an Adobe Pagemaker or Adobe Illustrator file?

There's always a better way. The fun is trying to find it!

The file extension is TIF. Unlike many other single use file formats, TIF files are actually part of a family of variations. Multi-page TIF files are common in operations that scan multi-page documents (like medical and legal). The multi-page feature allows the convenience of placing all pages of the document in a single file. So far I have been able to read all the pages with Acrobat and the XP Image and Fax Viewer. It has been suggested that Irfanview might allow me to open the entire document and then save the pages separately. I'll try that next.

Try a 3rd party app to split the multipage tif, here's one
If you want to save the multipage tif again try Irfanview.

Moe: It could have been a real ugly situation, but luckily I managed to shoot him in the spine.

If you have Adobe Acrobat you can use it to create a new PDF file from a multi-page tif. When you open this multipage PDF file in Photoshop, it lets you choose which page to load.
