Hello Aixers,
Is there a way to use multiple languages in my AIX 4.3.3? If so, how do I activate it or do I need to buy those languages? And one more, Is there a limit to the number of language I can run in a single server?

Thanks,
lexs

The standard AIX OS has many languages loaded on it...

All the filesets have language and you can select your language and install
filesets for FR for french or whatever you need.... They come with AIX...you just
have to load all the different language filesets that you need....

This includes help messages …etc…including man pages etc…

I believe then you have to set the individual users LANG variable, and possibly
LOC variables...Maybe even TZ.... in their .profile, or .kshrc or whatever you use..so they are called when they log in.

The installation default locale refers to the locale selected at installation.
For example, when prompted, a user can specify the French language as
spoken in Canada during the installation process. The code set automatically defaults to the ISO8859-1 code set. With this information, the
system sets the value of the default locale, specified by the LANG environment variable, to fr_CA (fr for ISO8859-1 French and CA for Canada).

Every process uses this locale unless the LC_* or LANG environment variables are
modified. The default locale can be changed by using the System Management Interface Tool (SMIT) Manage Language Environment menu.

So the install of AIX in the languages supported is not a problem.

Printing, sometimes can be a problem though…
It depends on whether the character set for the printer is set up for the printer
Or whether you have to manually do it

qprt -X 850 filename

For example to print in French....Sometimes you have to specify the character
set pc-850 when sending it to the printer.
Sometimes you can set it on the printer and be done with it……..

When the user wants to change to the other code set

Where more than one code set is supported for a language-territory
combination, the user may change to a nondefault locale by using:

The Web-based System Manager Users application
The Manage Language Environment SMIT menu
The chlang, chkbd, and chfont commands

Thanks aixqueen! I'll try it first.
