MTA Queues on Exchange Server

Hey Guys, this is the first time i have posted on here so forgive me if i miss things out, if so just ask.

Anyway my company has 5 exchage servers running over the world. Exchange 5.5 on Win2k Server boxes. We are having problems with MTA queues, for the last week every day queues are appearing on the MTA. Occasionally restarting the MTA service does solve the problem, but usually a reboot is needed of exchange servers. All exchange servers have the latest patches.

In the logs the error i am getting is as follows
A connection to

/0=(ourdomainname)/OU=(ourdomainname)/CN=CONFIGURATION/CN=SERVERS/CN=(oneofourservrs)/CN=Microsoft MTA could not be opened [MTA-XFER-IN 1626] (12)

any ideas please.

assuming you have separate sites for some of these server, what kind of connectors do you have configured between them?

Yep they are on seperate sites, and we have exchange connectors between them.

well, from the looks of the error, that server is complaining that it can't speak to the MTA of some other site server. I'd check your other servers' site connectors to see if they're functioning normally. Who knows, one of them might even be stopped/disabled....

How do i check that? is it a service.

I don't have a 5.5 server in front of me, but from Exchange Admin you should go to the server(s) in question and check the properties of their connector(s) and queues. Also, check the schedule tab for the connector(s) and make sure that replication is not set to "Never".

That all seems fine... queues are back again!

have you checked the MTA services on the other exchange servers?
Also make sure you can connect (ping) all the other exchange servers.

Yeah checked that, all up and running and can ping other hosts
