I have this: warning message + ding!!!

"msnxx:
access vioation at address 00404652 in module 'msnmsg.exe' value is 0000000D"

- written in french and I can find nothing helpful in Ms. files or other places ...
could someone help, please?

(using Vista home premium, running total commander 7.01, having some vista services turned off (indexing, network, compression, remote access, bluetooth)

msnmsg.exe is not a Vista file, is that a typing error or something more nasty?

What is the significance of "written in French" is that your selected language or is it only the message about msnmsg.exe that is in the French language?

Are you using the latest version of Windows Live Messenger? You could try uninstalling it and re-installing it.

Are there any errors showing in your Event Viewer?

sorry, no msn messenger running or installed that i could find ...

it seems that in the event viewer, i have:

event 5032 (security audit)- Windows firewall could not notify that it blocked prog accessing network;

and event 5038 "Code integrity determined that the image hash of a file is not valid. The file could be corrupt due to unauthorized modification or the invalid hash could indicate a potential disk device error." - and different paths /file names ...
it could be that a disk optimizer is moving files on the HD? ..

no, i didn't select french anywhere, this message is the only one in original french, in the original accented font and all...

it could be that a retarded disk optimizer is moving files on the HD? .. or that vista is patrolling my other partition with an XP installed on it - even though restore is off on that partition ...

The Event Viewer message is if I remember a Warning message that the Firewall has blocked something from running, as such it is not a Security risk. I have often seen this message on some of my Vista machines, and have chased around for a solution, finding none, i believe it is just a glitch that will probably be resolved after SP1, of course I could be wrong but nothing untoward is happening on my machines.

Firewall Service Block Notifications: Event ID 5032

As to your original post, no French language, no Messenger installed, that sounds like Malware at work to me.

Removing adware & spyware

Try the free version of "Ewido" now called "AVG Anti-Spyware 7.5"
