Not sure if this is the place to post this but we'll try!
I've recently moved my laptop onto a new domain at work.
However, I have now lost all my emoticons for msn messenger / windows live messenger. I've still got the old profile, but can't seem to locate them.

Any ideas anyone?

Thanks

Paul

Answered my own question:
C:\Documents and Settings\%username%\Application Data\Microsoft\MSN Messenger\2619656869\CustomEmoticons

Unfortunately, I don't think ther'es a way to automatically import them back in, you have "re-pin" each one

Its a real pain - but yes. It should be possible to edit the map.dat file with a hex editor to change the empoticon folder and permit you to copy the lot into the new folder MSN is using. This would let you copy them between machines etc. But I haven't been able to figure it out (yet!).

The other .dat files are actually gifs though. You can copy these to another more convenient folder and rename them to .gif (I use the dos command rename *.dat *.gif)

Having got a new folder with all the emoticons in now renamed as .gif 's you can see what they are in thumbnail view and then - yes the painful part - re-import them one by one!

If anyone has a better solution. Please tell us!

well I've found a utility called MSN Backup which has been recommended by an MVP on another forum.
I used it, but it only managed to get back 2 emoticons. cheers!
But it did get all my Winks. perhaps you may have more luck.
